 Joe Paolella’s brilliant one-hitter also featured a rare triple play by Irvington: With runners on 1st and 2nd, there was a line drive to 2nd baseman Bob Droppa. Bob doubled off the runner at first when he quickly whipped the ball to first baseman Charlie Lombard. Then Lombard fired a strike to shortstop Joey Vargas at second to complete the triple play. Joe Paolella, along with Dean Uhlik (below), were outstanding pitchers for IHS that year.
